Susie's Hope DVD Review & Giveaway (Ends 12/10)

About the movie: Run time 105 minutes

Based on the true story that successfully passed Susie’s Law in North Carolina, which seeks stricter punishment for animal abusers, Susie’s Hope brings to life the inspirational relationship between pit bull attack survivor Donna Lawrence and Susie, a pit bull-mix puppy found beaten, burned and left for dead. Recognizing reflect and abuse were to blame for the tragic attack that nearly claimed her life 10 months earlier, Donna resumes the battered animal and accepts her as family. Together, they learn to heal, love and forgive as thyey lead a historic effort to seek justice and protection, not only for Susie, but all animals. Starring Emmanuelle Vaguer (40 Days and 40 Nights), Burgess Jenkins (Remember The Titans) and Andrea Powell (Ender’s Game, The Twighlight: Breaking Dawn Saga: Part 2), Susie’s Hope is an incredible story of love, loss and redemption.

Watch and share the Susie’s Hope trailer here!

About Susie:
Susie was found nearly dead in Greenfield Park in Greensboro, North Carolina on August 20, 2009. Just a puppy, Susie had licked the face of her owner’s newborn baby. Her owner became violent—she was beaten so severely her jaw was broken. That wasn’t enough, though. She was then set on fire and left for dead. Incredibly and against all odds Susie survived. Donna Lawrence adopted her two months later. Susie is now a trained therapy dog and event won the American Humane Association’s American Hero Dog this year!

This website is a GREAT resource for all things Susie / Susie’s Hope related

First and foremost, I just want to say God bless this dog and her owner. For finding one another when they did and how they did. It truly is a miracle in itself. I personally and truly think they were meant to be together and meant to walk the path they have journeyed down these last few years together.

I had not heard of Susie before I watched this movie and read the provided information sent to me for my review. So I didn't know much about her, let alone her owner. Just basically that something had happened to her and the movie was based on a true story. I love movies based on true stories, so I looked forward to watching this one.

The movie was wonderful. When Susie was found burned and beaten alive, I cried. There is no way possible anyone can hold back tears while trying to watch that scene, let alone the scenes inside of the vet hospital. It made me want to take Susie into my arms and just give her a great big hug.

The end of the movie also got to me when the credits started playing. I love that they provided real life pictures of both Donna and Susie. To see real pictures put it all into perspective for me. From the time Donna was viciously attacked by a pit bull to the moments Susie was found burned and beaten alive. I'm so glad Susie's Law now exists.

I have never been a fan of people who abuse and neglect animals. Growing up, our pets had to be kept outside on a chain and then were eventually moved to a cage. Being so young, I didn't think much of these things. Now that I am older and much wiser, I look back on those years and wish the dogs I grew up with and loved had been treated better. I did sneak them in the house on several occasions but ended up in trouble over it. They are all 3 long gone now but I haven't forgotten about them. To see how they were treated has made me decide that when we get a dog, he or she WILL be kept indoors WITH the family. My husband even agrees with me on this which to me is a major plus.

No one in this world deserves to be beaten, abused or neglected. Seeing the pit bull attack Donna in this movie brought a memory back that I have tried to forget for a long time. When I was around 14 I believe, my oldest sister owned an albino pit bull named Sadie. She was the most loving dog you could ever meet. One day, while my sister, my niece who was very little and myself were in the living room, Sadie just up and started snarling and growling. She had one of them trapped in a corner and was starting to nip at them. I'm not sure how or what calmed her down but I knew that from that day on, she wouldn't be around anymore. The fact that she snarled and growled at a toddler was frightening. Shortly down the road, we ended up finding out that my sisters boyfriend had been feeding her raw meat and was trying to train her to fight. Luckily, this same guy is no longer in the picture and Sadie was given to a breeder/trainer in hopes that she may calm down and if it happened again, someone was trained enough to do something about it. It was a scary experience, indeed. She didn't deserve any of what was done to her but we also didn't want to take the chance of her ever hurting a toddler or any of us.

Susie and Donna have given me hope that good people and animals exist and that people out there still want to do something about the abuse and neglect of animals. Thank you Donna and Susie for giving all abused and neglected animals a voice!

I received the Mockingbird for my review. He is very fluffy and oh so adorable. He's not too big but not too small either. He is gray and white in color. All you have to do to make him play sound is press on his belly and voila!

My youngest daughter loves him as well and also loves to hear his bird sound. Definitely a great gift for children and also a fun way for children to learn about what different types of birds are out there.

Here is a video of his sound.

Wild Republic is giving one of my readers a chance to win their very own. They will send out a random one to you.

I'm going to make this easy and just leave this as a comment only giveaway.
Just answer this question below in the comment section.

For most of my life, I never had to deal with much when it came to my face. Maybe the occasional acne here and there but other than that, nothing. Since having my second daughter, that has changed drastically.

For as long as I can remember, I've always had to deal with dry skin, especially during the cooler months. Most times I would just slab some aloe on my face and call it a day. Now that I'm older, I notice myself dealing with oily skin and dry skin. The oily skin is mostly up around the lower part of my forehead and there's so much that sometimes I find a glob sitting on the top of my glasses frames. Yuck, right?

I was a little skeptical that this sponge would even do anything but it sure enough did. I love how soft and smooth my face feels after using it and the actual sponge itself isn't rough at all once it's wet.

You can use the sponge over and over for a total of 4-6 weeks. It's not one of those one time use products where you get ripped off. It's definitely worth what you pay for it.

I also love that they offer different variations of the product for each individual need. They also offer bath sponges for the same purpose as the face except you can use it all over your body. I will definitely be looking into those for future use.

Each of the nine authors in this book presents a different approach to storytelling, a different writing style, and a different interpretation of the theme. Some of the stories are very short, others are long. In some tales, the devil is a literal figure, in others a metaphorical one, and in several he is something else altogether.

1. The Sacrifice by April Grey
Be careful what you pray for.

2. The Angel and the Jungle God by Siewleng Torossian
Ali's special day has arrived.

3. The Best of all Possible Worlds by Tara Maya
Personal Paradise Inc. caters for a special clientele.

4. Round and Round the Garden by Jonathan Broughton
Children will listen.

5. Mean Dick Skyler by John Blackport
Is this deal as sweet as it first appears?

6. The Devil, You Say by Alice Gaines
Was he the devil, or an angel in disguise?

7. Devil Take It by Douglas Kolacki
Being blind and getting jerked around by the bus lines was bad enough. But now...

8. Rejection Letter by John Hoddy
An editor gets some of his own.

9. The Devil Eats Here by Rayne Hall
Join the prince of hell for lunch at your local diner.

Most of these stories have been previously published in magazines, e-zines and anthologies.

Rayne Hall has done it again! She has put together a book full of short stories that will not disappoint. That is one thing I love about these books the most. It's not just written by one author but instead many.

I loved all of the stories within this book. However, one stuck out the most to me. It had me itching to read more and I was very happy with the ending.

Mean Dick Skyler by John Blackport is the one that kept me on the edge of my seat. That one that drew me in and the one where I looked forward to what happened next. Just how the author wrote it made it really appealing in my opinion. It's not something that you would ever expect to happen but like they say, the devil works in mysterious ways.

No, I am by no means a devil worshipper. I am into the supernatural and have an open mind about certain things. Anything is possible. All of these writers knew that when they wrote these short stories.

If you'd like something that will keep you interested and not want to just go on to another book, this is definitely a great book to read. Rayne has put together a great collection here and I can only hope my readers feel the same.
